Düsseldorf (dpa) - Host Borussia Düsseldorf qualified ahead of schedule for the quarter-finals of the table tennis Champions League.

In the tournament format in their own hall, Timo Boll's team also won their second preliminary round match against the strongest group opponent GV Hennebont from France with 3-0 on Saturday.

Boll won in his singles in 3: 1 sets against the Belgian Cedric Nuytick.

The other two points went to the Swedish internationals Kristian Karlsson and Anton Källberg.

The Bundesliga rival Post SV Mühlhausen, on the other hand, can hope for a place in the knockout round after its opening defeat against tournament favorites Fakel Orenburg.

The Thuringians defeated the Spanish club Leka Enea 3-0 and now have a final on Sunday for second place in the group against Bogoria Grodzisk from Poland.

Steffen Mengel, Romanian Ovidiu Ionescu and Czech Lubomir Jancarik scored for Mühlhausen.

Because of the corona pandemic, the Champions League season will be played as a tournament in just eight days in Düsseldorf instead of several months.
