This was reported by the human rights organization Zona Prava with reference to the lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina.

The 35-year-old Moscow resident was previously engaged in swimming, served in the internal troops, but later received his first conviction. In December 2018, he was repeatedly convicted for a circle and sentenced to 3 years in a penal colony.

During the preliminary investigation, he was transferred to the capital's SIZO-4 (“Bear”), where he was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin's lymphoma). Petrov needs chemotherapy courses and other procedures that cannot be carried out in a prison hospital - only in a civilian clinic.

Human rights activists say that Hodgkin's lymphoma is included in two lists of diseases approved by the government: those that impede detention and those that prevent punishment.

By that moment when medical examination according to the first list was ready, the man was already convicted. Prison doctors promptly conducted a survey on the second list, but another person involved in the theft case filed an appeal to the Moscow City Court.

Thus, the sentence did not come into force, and it was also problematic to release it according to the second list (for convicts).

The last week a man, whose height is 2 meters 20 centimeters, spent in the hospital ward in "Matross silence". In the same place, in a pre-trial detention center, a court session was also held, as a result of which he was released from serving a sentence due to a serious illness.
