In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), after the inauguration ceremony, the new President of the Republic, Felix Tshisekedi, took possession of his offices. The place held by his predecessor, Joseph Kabila for 18 years, was released on Friday, January 25. For this ceremony, called on the spot "of handing over and recovery", the two men had a long talk in camera. They separated on the steps of the presidential office and on this occasion, the new head of state repeated his will to release the political prisoners and to close the unauthorized dungeons. During this ceremony, we also see that Vital Kamerhe, president of the UNC and co-editor of Félix Tshisekedi during the presidential election, is the new cabinet director of the presidency. The new head of state attended Friday evening, his first senior defense council. The next step will be the formation of a government.

Prior to the inauguration, the two ruling coalitions, CASH and the Common Front for the Congo (FCC), referred to the appointment of an informant, a personality appointed by the president to identify a parliamentary majority and form the government. in case of cohabitation. This is what the Constitution provides.

" This will not necessarily be the case, " explains today the Minister of Communication, Lambert Mendé. " It will only happen if there are difficulties, but what emerges from the speeches of the two coalition leaders is rather the intention to form a new majority, " said the spokesman of the outgoing government.

Coalition or cohabitation? The question now seems settled. In the entourage of the new president, we no longer speak of an informant but of a simple " trainer of government ", from Cach or civil society. It would be " a consensus personality, accepted by the FCC which has the numerical majority ", recognizes a close friend of Felix Tshisekedi.

Negotiations for the formation of the new government could still take between two and four weeks, it is said. In the meantime, on the proposal of the Prime Minister, the current government should resign - that's what the custom is - but would stay, to dispatch current affairs.

Another crucial step is the return of the new Parliament. It is scheduled for Monday, January 28th. The Assembly will be temporarily led by the Deputy Speaker, Gabriel Kyungu, from the Lamuka opposition coalition. It will have to set up two commissions, one to validate the mandate of the elected deputies, according to provisional results, and the other to draft the rules of the new Assembly, with a battle in sight, that of the size of the groups. parliamentarians.
