Canon, a major precision equipment maker, has decided to raise the base salary uniformly for the first time in 20 years in response to record price increases.

According to the company, about 25,000 employees in Japan and overseas will be eligible, and from next month the basic salary will be raised uniformly by 7,000 yen.

This company has introduced a system in which salaries are determined according to position and performance, so since 2004 there has been no uniform increase in basic salaries, and this is the first increase in 20 years.

The company says the reason for the bear is to help employees live in the face of record price increases.

In response to the rapid rise in prices and labor shortages, there has been a series of moves to raise wages, mainly among major companies. It shows a policy of continuing to raise wages on the same scale as this year, which increased by more than 10%.

Given that record-high prices have become a burden on household budgets, the focus will be on the extent to which such wage increases will spread during next year's spring labor offensive.
