In the first half of 2022, France experienced an abnormally high number of claims, according to France Assureurs, the French Insurance Federation.

As a result, the bill for natural disasters (hail, strong winds, floods, etc.) will be higher than usual, reports

Le Parisien

, Thursday September 15.

“These large-scale climatic events generated 1.4 million claims from January to August, for which insurers will pay compensation estimated at 5.2 billion euros,” indicates France Assureurs.

"The number of claims has been revised upwards," warns the organization that federates insurance companies.

And the cost of refunds has increased significantly, reaching an additional 13%.

In a context of inflation, repairing a roof or a car is more expensive.

“The cost of replacing a windshield destroyed by hail has increased by more than 40% in three months on average, underlines Florence Lustman, President of France Assureurs.

With the price of the tile having increased by 33% this year, the roof repair estimates after a hailstorm or a storm have also soared.

Uncounted Drought

These figures are likely to be even more catastrophic at the end of the year.

An unusual phenomenon, such as the heat peaks experienced this summer, will have an impact on compensation.

Thus, the effects of the drought and part of the damage caused to crops by this climatic event will not be known until later in the year.

But, after only eight months, this total of climate claims estimated at 5.2 billion euros explodes the cost observed each year since 2017, which was established on average at 3.5 billion euros in compensation.
