Two weeks before the Chuseok holiday, main vegetable prices remain strong.

In general, this year's cultivation has been largely affected by a decrease compared to last year, and it seems that there is also the aftermath of the recent torrential rains mainly in the central region.

According to the Agricultural Products Distribution Information (KAMIS) of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) today (25th), the wholesale price of 4 kg of spinach (product) as of yesterday was 78,280 won, 72.9% from the same period last year and 79.6% from the normal year. each went up.

The price of 4 kg of green lettuce is 64,680 won, which is 82.3% higher than a year ago and 69.0% higher than normal.

During the same period, the price of red lettuce rose by 73.9% and 60.9%, respectively.

The price of 20 kg of potatoes was calculated to be 44,320 won, up 34.4% and 20.5% from a year ago and the average year, respectively.

The price of 20 kg of radish was 23,440 won, up 89.0% from a year ago and 28.4% from the average year, respectively.

The price of 10 kg of Chinese cabbage was 16,740 won, up 77.5% from the same period last year and similar to the average year.

The factors driving the price increase vary from item to item.

In the case of Chinese cabbage and radish, the reduction in cultivated area compared to last year is a major factor.

An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained, "Last year, a lot of cabbage was cultivated, so the price was low."

Spinach and lettuce have a short cultivation cycle of about one month, so the cultivation area and price change frequently.

When the price goes up, the amount grown, and when the price goes down, the amount grown, and the price often goes up and down.

However, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs analyzed that shipments may have been disrupted due to torrential rains that have continued for more than four days in the central region in recent years.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to supply a total of 144,000 tons of 14 items, including fruits, vegetables, and livestock products, to stabilize the supply and demand of holy water before Chuseok.

This is about 1.5 times the normal shipment supply.
