The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has announced the outlook for vegetable prices for next month. Due to the effects of the cold weather that lasted until the middle of this month, five items such as Chinese cabbage, cabbage, and lettuce are expected to remain at high prices in the first half of next month.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has announced the wholesale price outlook for 14 main vegetable items shipped to the Tokyo Central Wholesale Market.

According to the report, prices for a total of five items, including Chinese cabbage, cabbage, lettuce, carrots, and onions, are expected to remain higher than normal in the first half of next month.

Towards the middle of this month, the Kanto region, which is a producing region of leafy vegetables, had many colder than normal days, slowing growth, and poor weather in other producing regions also affected the shipment volume of five items below normal. This is because it is expected to be lower than that.

However, as growth is expected to recover as temperatures rise, prices for all five items are expected to settle down to normal levels in the second half of next month.

On the other hand, potato prices are expected to remain more than 10% lower than normal until the second half of next month, as growth is going well in Kagoshima Prefecture and Hokkaido, the main production areas.
