Last month's sales at major supermarkets nationwide exceeded the same month last year for the third straight month, partly due to strong demand for eating at home and strong grocery sales.

According to the announcement by the Japan Chain Stores Association, sales of 11,882 major supermarkets nationwide last month were 1,086.8 billion yen, an increase of 2.8% from the same month last year, three months compared to existing stores. It has exceeded last year in a row.

By product, sales of delicatessen and alcoholic products were strong, increasing by 1.5%, while demand for groceries to eat at home was strong.

As for clothing, sales of winter clothing for women, including knit products, increased by 1.2% due to increased opportunities to go out for work and leisure.

Atsushi Inoue, Managing Director of the Japan Chain Stores Association, said, "There is a strong awareness of life defense to carefully select and buy as much cheap as necessary." We are worried about the impact on consumption as the rise in prices puts an additional burden on households. "
