Shin Ji-ah, a promising female figure skater, placed second in the short program at the Junior Grand Prix Final, raising her chances of winning a medal 17 years after Kim Yu-na.

In the short program of this year's event where the 6 best performers of the season compete, Jia Shin got off to a fresh start with her first jump, a triple lutz triple toe loop combination jump, with a clean success.

She went on to score 69.11 points, performing the double axel, triple toe loop and layback spin without error, placing her in second place behind Japan's Mao Shimada who scored 69.66.

Chaeyeon Kim placed third behind Jia Shin with a score of 66.71 and her youngest 13-year-old Minsol Kwon placed fifth with a score of 59.91.

Korea, which has the most three players ever, will challenge for a medal in 17 years since Yuna Kim's victory in 2005.
