Liverpool agree with Benfica to sign Uruguayan Nunes for 100 million euros

Several Portuguese sports media reported today that Benfica and Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunes is on his way to contracting Liverpool, the English Premier League runners-up, in a deal that could amount to 100 million euros.

And the newspapers "Record" and "A Bola" indicated that the two clubs reached an agreement yesterday in Lisbon, where the German coach Jurgen Klopp's team confirmed its willingness to pay 75 million euros, plus 25 million, depending on some sporting goals.

Their rival newspaper O Jogo and state television RTP touched upon a €80 million deal with €20 million bonuses.

Nunes, who will celebrate his 23rd birthday on June 26, joined Benfica in the summer of 2020 from Almeria, Spain, who was then playing in the second division, for 24 million euros, in the most expensive deal in the history of the city of Lisbon.

Nunes' performance was mixed in his first season with Benfica before he starred remarkably this season, especially against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, despite the exclusion of Benfica (1-3 back in Lisbon, and 3-3 back in Liverpool).

Nunes scored 47 goals and assisted 16 in 84 matches in the red shirt of the Lisbon "Eagles", which is the title of Benfica.
