According to the Swedish Sports Confederation, 19 percent of the associations in smaller cities and rural areas state a great need for more times, halls and areas for sports.

The figure is increasing in larger cities, and is as high as 43 percent in large cities and municipalities close to cities.

The question is what national politics can contribute.

- I think we can contribute some money and knowledge, and we may also be able to steer a little harder, so that it is not the sports surfaces that get ironed when housing areas are built, says Sports Minister Anders Ygeman (S) to SVT Sport.

Stadshagen gets housing

Norrtulls SK trains, among other things, at Stadshagen's IP, an oasis on Kungsholmen that will soon be ironed out.

Stockholm Municipality has sold the profitable land, and housing will be built in the long term.

- In Stockholm, it has been decided that nine new football pitches are needed in the inner city, and to then build homes on some of those that already exist does not feel very logical, says Martin Carlon who is chairman of Norrtulls SK.

- We should make a new sports policy inquiry, about what is the responsibility of the state, municipalities and regions, says Kristina Axén Olin (M), who is a sports policy spokesperson.

Commutes to Stadshagen

At the same time in the harsh reality, Norrmalm has 75,000 inhabitants, but no full-size football pitch.

The 1900 members of Norrtulls SK agree on one and a half plans in their own district, and commute to Stadshagen, which lives on borrowed time.

- I think there is a need for clearer demands on the municipalities that more sports facilities are needed, and perhaps combine it with some form of financial compensation to ensure that it happens, says Martin Carlon.
