Sweden was in shared first place together with Japan, Norway and Switzerland before the last match in the regular season.

Therefore, everything would be decided on Thursday as only the top three in the group advanced to the playoffs.

Both Norway and Switzerland stormed early in their matches against victories against New Zealand and South Korea respectively - while Sweden and Japan had to fight for the last of the three playoff places in the group.

Japan hunted

Halfway into the match, Isabella and Rasmus Wranå had taken a 5-1 lead after two two-pointers in a row in the third and fourth rounds.

Japan was then released into the match.

In the fifth, they reduced to 3-5, but two Swedish points in the sixth, where they had the last stone, kept the Swedish lead alive.

And so they came to the eighth and final round.

Then Japan had reduced again and it was 7-5 to Sweden.

At the same time, Norway and Switzerland had then won their matches and secured the play-off promotion.

But Sweden had the hammer.

And Wranå made sure to give Sweden the playoff spot by making sure that one last Swedish score was in place and the match ended 8-5.

To the quarterfinals

Norway won 9-1 against New Zealand and Switzerland won 9-2 against South Korea.

In the group stage, Sweden lost to Switzerland, but won against Norway.

In the table, Sweden therefore finished second and is on to the quarter finals, just like group three Norway.

Gruppetta became Switzerland, which goes straight to the semifinals.

The playoffs are played tomorrow Friday, while the medal matches are played on Saturday.
