National soccer player Joshua Kimmich has tested positive for the corona virus.

This was announced by FC Bayern Munich on Thursday and confirmed a corresponding report in the "Bild" newspaper.

The previously unvaccinated 26-year-old was most recently in quarantine after having had contact with a person who tested positive.

Before Kimmich, the positive test by team-mate Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting became known this Thursday. Kimmich is in domestic isolation, announced FC Bayern on its website. For weeks, Kimmich has been the focus of public debates throughout Germany, after he admitted after the 4-0 Munich team against Hoffenheim at the end of October that he was not vaccinated against the corona virus. He had justified his hesitation with "a few personal concerns, especially with regard to the lack of long-term studies". As a result, after Niklas Süle's positive test, Kimmich, like other teammates, had to leave the national team as a contact person and be placed in quarantine. A second quarantine followed.

Kimmich now has to remain in domestic isolation and can then test himself free with a negative PCR test.

He should therefore miss the Bundesliga classic at Borussia Dortmund on December 4th.

The fourth corona wave hit the staff of FC Bayern with full force.

In addition to infections in vaccinated professionals and those in charge such as Süle or trainer Julian Nagelsmann, there were also the quarantine consequences of the unvaccinated.

Accordingly, Munich played on Tuesday at Dynamo Kiev with a rump squad.
