National soccer player Joshua Kimmich has tested positive for the corona virus.

This was announced by FC Bayern Munich on Wednesday and confirmed a corresponding report in the "Bild" newspaper.

The previously unvaccinated 26-year-old was most recently in quarantine after having had contact with a person who tested positive.

Before Kimmich, the positive test by team mate Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting became known. Kimmich is in domestic isolation, announced FC Bayern on its website. For weeks, Kimmich has been the focus of public debates throughout Germany, after he admitted after the 4-0 Munich team against Hoffenheim at the end of October that he was not vaccinated against the corona virus. He had justified his hesitation with "a few personal concerns, especially with regard to the lack of long-term studies". As a result, after Niklas Süle's positive test, Kimmich, like other teammates, had to leave the national team as a contact person and be placed in quarantine. A second quarantine as an unvaccinated contact person for a corona infected person then followed. He missed the derby at FC Augsburg (1:2) and the Champions League group game at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday (2: 1).

Shortly before the report about Kimmich's infection, there were indications that he was about to be vaccinated. "I think that Jo is going in the direction of getting vaccinated," said national coach Hansi Flick on Wednesday afternoon: "In the future, I think there will be no other way." He spoke to Kimmich, the national coach reported in a video link from London: “It was a very good conversation, I saw a trend. It worries him very much ”, it is wrong to“ pillory ”Kimmich - this distracts from the fact that in Germany“ many things should go better ”.

Kimmich now has to remain in domestic isolation and can then test himself free with a negative PCR test. So he should miss the Bundesliga classic at Borussia Dortmund on December 4th. The fourth corona wave hit the staff of FC Bayern with full force. In addition to infections in vaccinated professionals and those in charge such as Süle or trainer Julian Nagelsmann, there were also the quarantine consequences of the unvaccinated. Accordingly, the Munich team played with a rump squad at Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday.

According to media reports, Kimmich's club colleagues Serge Gnabry, who had recovered from a corona infection, and Jamal Musiala have now received their first vaccination.

Flick confirmed this for Gnabry: "Serge received a booster vaccination".

This would be sufficient after the illness has been overcome.

Musiala should build up full vaccination protection during the winter break.
