As an 18-year-old, she became Norwegian champion in super-G.

The year after the double Norwegian champion and shortly afterwards junior world champion.

But the last few years have been tough for 25-year-old Mina Fuerst Holtmann.

The same year as she as the JVM gold, 2015, the first accident occurred during a training.

She fell badly and broke both legs in her left leg.

- I was new to the team and was a little overwhelmed.

I had burned a lot of gunpowder and then I became unfocused, she says about the incident in an interview with NRK.

Open wound for two weeks

In connection with the fracture, she got something called "compartment syndrome", which led to the whole leg swelling up.

- Then you have to go in and cut up the calf muscle from knee to ankle so that there is room for the muscle to swell up, says Fuerst Holtmann.

- So then I lay there with an open wound for two weeks and had five operations in two weeks before they could finally close the whole wound.

New damage

Nine months later, the alpine talent was finally back.

But it was also the injury concern.

- I came back and then I got a back injury.

Then I was out that year too, she says.

She was very determined, continued with hard training and was finally back on the slopes.

But the tough training finally paid off.

"Be very tired"

- Then I would have come back on skis and gone my first WC.

It went very well in the beginning, but gradually during the season I noticed that the two years with a lot of training had taken on me.

I was very tired.

In the end, it became too much, says the 25-year-old.

She chose to take a break from skiing and find her way back to the joy of the sport.

She did that in the end and during the 2019/2020 season she finished as the 20th in the World Cup.

On Thursday, she will ride her first competition, giant slalom, in this year's WC in Cortina.
