The coronavirus has once again turned the calendar of an international sports competition upside down.

The Under-20 and Under-17 FIFA World Cup scheduled for 2021 are canceled for health reasons and postponed to 2023 with the same host countries, Indonesia and Peru respectively, FIFA announced Thursday.

The problem of qualifications

"It became clear that the global health situation had not improved sufficiently to meet the challenges associated with the two competitions, especially with regard to the good performance of the various qualification courses," FIFA said in a statement. .

Many football competitions have had to be postponed in recent months after the outbreak of the pandemic, starting with Euro-2020, postponed to summer 2021 (June 11-July 11), the Copa America rescheduled for the same dates , or the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, postponed to January 2022.
