Among all the possible comebacks in football, this is not the one we would have bet our woolen socks on.

The former boss of the LFP Frédéric Thiriez has indeed officially announced his candidacy for the next presidential election of the French Football Federation.

Here is therefore a strong competitor who is presented to the current boss Noël Le Graët, if the latter is indeed embarking on the race.

While the elections have been postponed to next March (they were originally scheduled to take place on December 12) because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Breton has not yet officially said that he was running for a third mandate at the head of French football.

Thiriez is therefore to be the first candidate to launch, without it being known if other names will come out of the hat in the coming weeks.

What about the list put together by Luis Fernandez?

As a reminder, Luis Fernandez had also expressed the idea of constituting a list with former European champions 84 and world champions 98 (Giresse, Tigana, Barthez, Desailly or even Thuram), without yet knowing who would be responsible for representing her at the head of the Fed.

One thing is certain, however, with this duel Thiriez

vs

Noël Le Graët, these elections will be worth their weight in peanuts for observers of the small world of football.

Take out the popcorn, the show will (soon) begin.
