Toronto will be one of six teams in the league as of next season, the league announced in a press release. This makes the team the first Canadian in the league.
A year ago Canada had its own lady, but it was closed down due to poor economy. NWHL is also struggling with the economy and most players have jobs alongside.
The biggest US and Canadian stars have chosen to boycott NWHL during the past season due to the poor economic conditions.
NWHL was formed in 2015 and this past season the national team goalkeeper Lovisa Selander played as the only Swedish in the league. Her Boston team, which won the base series, would have faced Minnesota in the finals of the playoffs, but the game has been postponed indefinitely due to the Corona crisis.
