The Women's Crown boycott, allegations of gender-discriminatory pay, and police investigation into sexual harassment. The tours around the Swedish Ice Hockey Association have been many lately and on Wednesday, Secretary General Tommy Boustedt resigned.

- I think it's a good decision, it's been a soup for a long time and a change is needed. I do not think the Swedish ice hockey association with Tommy Boustedt at the forefront has taken responsibility for the situation that arises, says Maria Rooth to SVT Sport.

"Structural problems remain"

She believes this is a way for the union to show that they are taking responsibility - but that more is needed.

- The problem doesn't just disappear because a person disappears. I think the structural problems remain without a doubt. The hockey is far behind many other sports when it comes to equality, equality and so on. These structures are so cemented, so it's a long journey and a hard job, but it needs to be done and the hockey benefit in the end, Rooth says.

All the attention that has been around the union lately says SVT's expert Jonas Andersson is a big reason why Boustedt is now leaving.

- It is clear that it plays into the fact that it is not just one thing but several things that disturbed the focus of the ice hockey, and there has not been any good publicity for the union. I think the board has been pressured by acting because there has been so much negative writing and negative publicity, ”says Jonas Andersson to SVT Sport.

Replacement not finished

Buustedt will remain until the fall while the union will find a replacement. And who remains to be seen.

- It's a pretty complex role. You have to keep track of both ice hockey, leadership issues and also financial responsibility so it is not a given that it has to be an old hockey player if you say so, but at the same time you need to have a knowledge of the sport, says Andersson.

For Maria Rooth, other characteristics are important too.

- I think it has to be a person who cares about these words that I think are useful with equality and equality in valuation, which I think has been absent from the union so far, she says.
