Two years in a row, she finished second in the shooter of Damallsvenskan. She became a scorer in the Champions League and was selected for the A-national team.

But while she dominated on the football field for her Gothenburg FC and had made her national team debut in the European Championship qualifier against Latvia, the 22-year-old realized last fall that no one was right in the body.

- It was nothing strange, but after a while I still reacted to some symptoms and that it was something that was not as it should, even though it did not affect my performance as a player, she tells Bohusläningen.

"Suddenly it was life that it was about"

On an ultrasound examination in October, she was told that she needed to have a cyst removed from one ovary. Cystan was analyzed and one morning in early December she was awakened by a telephone call from the hospital. She was called to a meeting where she would bring a relative. Then she was told that she had been affected by cancer.

- Suddenly it was the life it was about and there was nothing else. It is not possible to explain, but the most difficult of all is the uncertainty because you have nothing to relate to. A powerlessness without a chance to influence what will happen. It is the disease that determines. It is impossible to imagine what it feels like and it is something that no one should experience.

She tells Bohusläningen that she has always had a strong relationship with her family and that their support meant a lot.

- Huge lot. There were many tears and feelings, but we were there for each other and held each other up. Because it is true that everyone in the family is affected by such a message, even if only one is diagnosed. Of course, since we are a tight team, it has been of great importance, she says.

Well declared in January

After a heavy December with further investigations, on January 8, the message came that the cancer was gone. Shortly before this interview, a post-check with the same pleasing message was made.

- In the middle of it all, I was lucky that it was discovered in time and that I failed to go through treatments. There are others who get a much heavier journey in this.

Rebecka herself will be under observation with checks every three months to begin with and then regularly for five years.
