Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that German Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee, had "agreed" to postpone the upcoming Olympic Games (Tokyo 2020) for one year, due to fears of a new corona virus.

He explained to reporters today, Tuesday, that during his phone discussions with Bach today, he requested that the Olympics be postponed for only one year, if the International Olympic Committee decided to postpone this copy due to the epidemic virus, and Abe confirmed that Bach "agreed 100%."

Peaceful Olympics have never been canceled or postponed in the history of the recent 124-year Olympics.

Based on the above, a source in the Olympic Movement told Reuters that the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee will meet today, Tuesday, by phone, to discuss the postponement.

And it became almost unavoidable that the Olympics would postpone only one year as a maximum.

Pressure has increased on the International Olympic Committee and Games organizers to postpone the Olympics to 2021, due to the outbreak of the Coruna virus.

The virus has so far infected more than 377,000, and killed more than 16,500 worldwide.

For its part, the Governor of Tokyo, Yoriko Koike, confirmed on Tuesday that the name of the Olympic Games, if postponed for one year, will remain Tokyo 2020.

Koike made her comment to reporters after she held a phone meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister and the President of the International Olympic Committee today as well.
