"It is soon time for this little boy, who in 1997 skipped through 11km at 7-mile, to put the skis on the shelf," writes Peterson, who during the career won three Olympic golds in sprint, and took two Olympic silver, in sprint and in sprint relay in Sochi 2014.

The competitions in Drammen and the finish in Canada / USA will be Peterson's last World Cup competitions in his career.

"Obviously it feels a little sad to quit and there is a lot I will miss after 11 years in the national team that has made me experience an incredible amount," writes the 31-year-old, who is still looking forward to a final battle in the tracks.

"I am now looking forward to the end of this season"

Peterson won two individual World Cup victories in sprint, in Moscow in 2012 and in Czech Liberec in 2013.
