Real Madrid escaped from the Granada trap and achieved a new victory that strengthened their position at the top of the Spanish league.

Frenchman Karim Benzema took the lead in the second minute, and Belgian Eden Hazard added the second in the last minute of the first half, before the Croatian Luka Modric scored the third goal in the 61st minute.

Everyone was expecting the club to settle the game, but Granada returned and scored twice in ten minutes, the first goal came in the 68th minute from a penalty by Darwin Machis and scored the second goal Domingos Dorati in the 77th minute.

Granada sought to equalize but Colombian substitute James Rodriguez settled the match with a fourth goal in stoppage time.

The win lifted Real Madrid to 18 points, four points behind Granada, who are in danger of losing the runners-up when completing the rest of the eighth round of the competition.
