The wife, young son and mother-in-law of baseball player Blake Bivens of the Tampa Bay Rays were killed in a triple homicide in Virginia, US media reported Wednesday.

Emily Bivens, her one-year-old son Cullen and her mother were found dead in a house in Keeling, Virginia, on Tuesday, the WSET and ESPN networks reported.

Matthew Bernard, the teenage brother of Emily Bivens, was later arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, according to local news reports.

Bernard was arrested after an hour-long chase ended in a strange confrontation.

The images of the teenager's capture showed that the local authorities took him naked. The Pittsburgh County Sheriff's Office has not formally disclosed the names of the victims, but multiple reports identified them as the family of pitcher Bivens.

Boxing promoter Lou DiBella, executive director and owner of the Biscuits, said in a statement that Bivens had suffered an "unimaginable loss." "First, Biscuits' thoughts and prayers are with Blake and everyone who has been affected by this tragedy," said DiBella. "We appreciate the great amount of support and concern, but we ask that you respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time."

The Rays also offered their support to Bivens, saying in a Twitter post: "We're with you Blake. Our hearts are broken by Blake." "We are afflicted with him and will support him in everything we can. We ask that everyone respect the privacy of the Bivens family and the Biscuits family during this extremely difficult time," added the organization of the Majors.
