In the debate over the serious allegations against US Justice Brett Kavanaugh, US President Donald Trump has re-attacked the opposition. Trump accused the Democrats of being able to bring the allegations against Kavanaugh to the attention much earlier - and not at the very end of the proceedings of Kavanaugh's appeal. But they can do very well, "said Trump at a joint press conference with President of the Republic Andrzej Duda in Washington.

Kavanaugh is to move up after the will of Trump as a judge to the highest US court. The president had proposed the arch-conservative and controversial lawyer for the key post at the Supreme Court. However, shortly before the US Senate's ruling on personnel, serious allegations against Kavanaugh had come to light.

Professor Christine Blasey Ford of California claims that Kavanaugh tried to rape her after a party in the early 1980s. She had addressed her story confidentially to a Democrat Member of Parliament weeks ago, and most recently spoke publicly with an interview in the Washington Post.

Alleged witness does not want to speak publicly

Kavanaugh denies the allegations vehemently. Both he and Ford are scheduled to comment on the case next Monday before the US Senate Judiciary Committee. According to Ford, there was another person present in the alleged assault, Mark Judge. He said Tuesday he would not speak publicly about the case. "I do not remember this suspected incident," Judge wrote in a letter to the Judiciary Committee.

The Senate's final decision on Kavanaugh's appeal should have come in a few days. Now it is uncertain how it will continue.

Controversy before the US MidtermsThe incalculable choice

Trump said Tuesday he was very sorry for Kavanaugh - including his wife and children. The judge did not deserve what happened to him at the moment. In addition, Trump opposed Democrats' demand that the FBI be turned on, "I do not think the FBI should really be involved because they do not want to be involved," Trump said.

Already on Monday Trump had defended Kavanaugh: He was an outstanding judge and an irreproachable person. There has never been a flaw in Kavanaugh's career, Trump said. The FBI has also examined this several times.
