• Royal Houses Jordanian royal wedding: the inexplicable gestures of the Spanish Royal Family
  • Anniversary The guests, the jewelry, the place... This was the wedding of Abdullah and Rania, kings of Jordan

Last weekend the most feared photo by King Juan Carlos was published: an image of him in a wheelchair at the last royal wedding in Jordan. The picture portrayed what we all already intuited in some way: the emeritus, no matter how good health he has, is still an 85-year-old man and it is normal that he has mobility problems after the traumatological interventions to which he has been operated throughout his life added to the ailments of his age. However, for many, what was really surprising about this event full of royals, great fortunes and rancid ancestry was the triumphant attitude of Queen Sofia throughout the call. Videos broadcast of the wedding lavishness show our happy Queen Mother in her monarchical circle of Old Europe, moving like a fallow deer, relaxed, agile, smiling, beautiful, wearing her best clothes.

The Greek consort has overcome, with the passage of time, the dislikes that her husband has given her, her comings and goings with lovers, but above all the transcendence of the same in the media, and especially the scandals for her opaque fortune and her bad company. Now, because of her attitude, Sofia seems to be at peace with the father of her children and sees him as an old man who needs assistance who, although she does not take care of since he lives in the Emirates and she in Spain, still has great affection for him. She will never cease to be her most authoritative companion to this type of calls so important for her in which she is given prestige and place that she and many consider deserves in the history of Spain.

That said, Doña Sofía has put all the meat on the grill on her trip to Amman to attend the wedding of Prince Hussein and Rajwa Al-Saif. Since Don Felipe and Doña Letizia could not attend due to scheduling problems, our Queen knew herself to be the protagonist and has made a great effort to act as representatives of the Spanish royal house with pride, coinciding with the kings of the Netherlands, the princes of Denmark or the princes of Wales, among others.

For the Katb Al Kitab ceremony, the signing of the marriage contract, held at the Zahran Palace, Doña Sofía recovered a dress that has hung in her closet for almost 20 years, a Valentino haute couture that was worn on the 60th birthday of King Gustav of Sweden, in 2006. It coincided in tone, powdery pink, with Kate from England, who wore an Elie Saab of similar fall. Our Queen exquisitely defended her look, consisting of a skirt at three heights with French sleeve body and marked shoulder pads, to highlight the metallic draping at the waist and a layer of divine tulle that moved gracefully while she walked.

Sofia chose sapphires to elevate the ensemble. "The earrings and necklace form a half dressing about which we know very little. Her Majesty has worn it quite often and Queen Letizia has worn the earrings on three occasions. The design of these jewels is reminiscent of the impressive carpentry works that decorate the domes of the halls of the old Arab palaces, "reads the specialized Instagram account Spanish Royal Jewels.

"The Queen also put on a brooch that we haven't seen in public since 1999. A piece that represents a comet, where we observe a cabochon sapphire surrounded by a diamond frame with a tail of golden threads punctuated by brilliants and corals. It is signed by Pierre Sterlé and was a gift from Franco on the occasion of the birth of Prince Philippe in 1968. I suspect that the brooch matches the bracelet of the right hand, a rigid and open piece of yellow gold with another of white gold curdled with diamonds and topped by two cabochon sapphires. On her left wrist are two bracelets, one of them depicting flowers and leaves and belongs to the Camellia line of Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry."

Hours after this ceremony, the guests marched to the palace of Al Husseiniya to enjoy a show and baquete. Doña Sofía returned to pull wardrobe background and put on a discreet gray model with embroidered lace body that made the tapestry of one of her most distinctive dressings composed of rubies. They say in Spanish Royal Jewels: "This piece was a wedding gift to Doña Sofía by the tycoon Stavros Niarchos. Queen Victoria Eugenie described this gift in a letter to her cousin the Infanta Beatrice: 'C'est beau la fortune!' Made by Van Cleef & Arpels, this two-turn necklace consists of 37 medallions of Burmese rubies. A versatile piece, since each element can be removed and combined. Doña Sofía has adapted the various medallions creating chokers, necklaces, sautoirs, rings, bracelets and diadems. This time she wore a part of the original necklace adapted as a diadem, a medallion adapted as a ring and the others as a double necklace. She wore matching earrings, a bracelet of rubies and diamonds that was a gift for the birth of the Infanta Cristina and a bracelet that belonged to Queen Ena.
