"Come on Sergio, we are with you," read the T-shirt worn by the former teammates of the No. 2 goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain.

Sergio Rico, 29, has been hospitalized since Sunday following a horse riding accident in Andalusia. A PSG spokesman said on Sunday he was "in serious condition". The Parisian club, contacted by AFP, has not provided any more information about him.

According to several media reports, the player, victim of a traumatic brain injury, was admitted to an intensive care unit at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Seville and placed under sedation and respiratory assistance.

PSG has canceled the traditional gala dinner of its foundation which was scheduled for Tuesday "due to the worrying state of health of Sergio Rico," said the club in a statement released Tuesday.

"The current situation requires our full attention and forces us to give up our traditional gala," said Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, president of the club and the Foundation, adding in the same statement that "the great family of Paris Saint-Germain is deeply touched by the tragedy".

The Spanish goalkeeper, who joined PSG in 2019, has received several messages of support from teammates who have rubbed shoulders with him or still rub shoulders with him at PSG, including Keylor Navas and Sergio Ramos.

"I ask for a prayer chain for my friend, please, we are together! I love you," wrote the first, on loan to Nottingham Forest, on his social networks, accompanied by a photo with the Spanish goalkeeper. The second said: "I pray for you, my friend.... Sergio Rico, all my strength and faith are with you."

"Don't leave me alone my love because I swear to you that I cannot, I don't know, how to live without you. We are waiting for you, my life, we love you so much," his wife Alba Silvat wrote Tuesday on Instagram.
