The Socialists (PSOE) of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez suffered a sharp setback in the municipal elections of Sunday, May 28 in Spain, according to the official results on 90% of the vote. For its part the People's Party (PP, right) won the greatest number of votes.

In addition, the Socialists have lost several of the regions they held, including the Valencian Community (east), according to Spanish media.

The municipal election was marked by an increase in turnout compared to the 2019 elections. At 18 p.m. local time, two hours before the end of voting, it stood at 51.48%, compared to 49.93% at the same time four years ago, an increase of 1.55, said the Ministry of the Interior.
