Burkina Faso: Two journalists detained in Mogho Naaba case

Alain Traoré and Lookman Sawadogo are charged with complicity in non-denunciation in the case of the Mogho Naaba, title given to the king of the Mossi. In early May, audios calling for the burning of the monarch's palace circulated on social media.

It was Thursday evening that were placed under arrest warrant at the prison of Ouagadougou the journalist Alain Traoré, known as Alain Alain, of the group Omega Media, and his colleague Lookman Sawadogo, of the TV channel LCA. According to Burkinabe media, the two men are accused of having remained silent in the case of the Mogho Naaba palace. The court believes that they had information about the audios that circulated on social networks at the beginning of the month.

The first of these audios claimed that the ruler of the Mossi was opposed to the new transitional authorities and called for the burning of his palace. In response, the second round of recordings called for mobilization to protect the palace. Messages aimed at provoking "a clash between supporters and opponents of Mogho Naaba," said a week ago, the prosecutor of the High Court of Ouagadougou.

Alain Traoré is known in his country for his satirical and unapologetic show "Le défouloir d'Alain Alain". His colleague Lookman Sawadogo presents the show "7 Afrique" on LCA. Several people had already been arrested in this case. These arrests come in a climate of pressure and threats on the Burkinabe press since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power. According to Radio Omega, the judgment is scheduled for next Saturday.
