Burkina Faso: former minister Ablassé Ouedraogo appears for the first time in a video

In Burkina, for the first time proof of the life of Ablassé Ouedraogo was released. The former Minister of Foreign Affairs was arrested on December 24. Since then, his relatives have had no news. On Sunday, photos and a video of him were published on the Internet. Ablassé Ouedraogo is presented as being at the front, taking part in the fight against jihadists within the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland. He appears alongside other figures from civil society.

In the photos and video, we see Ablassé Ouedraogo in brown fatigues, black sneakers on his feet, and AK47 in hand. Known for his jovial temperament, the former minister has a closed face this time. We do not know where and when these images were taken, but we see the head of the Le Faso Autre party, simulating military maneuvers, even though he is 70 years old, moving forward and aiming his Kalashnikov, following the cameraman's orders.

Ablasse Ouedraogo is not alone. He is alongside Issiaka Ouedraogo, president of the Council for Information and Monitoring of Government Actions, arrested after denouncing the amateurism of the transitional power, then sent to the front. Also with them, Dr Daouda Diallo, secretary general of the collective against impunity and stigmatization of communities, arrested at the beginning of December. Since his arrest, only one photo of him in uniform and helmet had circulated.

Some believe that these images constitute a warning. In fact, they come out the day after a meeting of the head of the junta, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who warned his supporters that there would be no feeling for those who betrayed Burkina. The image of Ablassé Ouedraogo serves to “

remind all the discordant voices that terror still exists. It’s about showing psychosis, creating fear

,” said a close friend of the former minister.
