Burkina Faso: the secretary general of the CGTB ordered to return to his post at the university

Since yesterday, Friday March 1st, Moussa Diallo has been required by his employer to return to his post at Koudougou University in Burkina Faso under penalty of losing his job.

The man is a teacher but he is also the general secretary of the CGTB, one of the main unions in the country, who was threatened with arrest in January 2024 by unknown persons in civilian clothes.

Since January 29 and this aborted kidnapping attempt by individuals in civilian clothes, Moussa Diallo has been playing it safe in Burkina Faso.

The general secretary of the CGTB knows he is in the crosshairs of the authorities in place and has taken numerous measures to avoid exposing himself to another kidnapping attempt.

Consequence: on February 20, 2024, Issa Moumoula, the president of Norbert-Zongo University in Koudougou, sent a letter of formal notice to Moussa Diallo.

It is indicated that, following absences described as “

irregular

” at his post since December 8, Moussa Diallo must return to work within ten days from February 20.

Unfounded formal notice

According to those close to him, this formal notice is completely unfounded since, our source tells us, Moussa Diallo, professor and researcher in philosophy, took part - between February 13 and 15 - in a work session with students at the university and before December 22 to develop a CAMES file for the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education.

For Moussa Diallo's unionist colleagues, this is clearly a null and void measure, which would only aim to facilitate the arrest of the union leader.

An arrest outside the legal framework as was the case for several Burkinabè representatives of civil society or the political world.
