The LDP is increasingly pushing back the LDP over how to deal with the five prefectures where the number of single-member constituencies will increase from the next House of Representatives election, and the New Komeito Party is actively fielding candidates in Tokyo, following Saitama and Aichi.

In line with the "increase and decrease of 10" single-member constituencies in the House of Representatives election, the New Komeito Party has announced a policy of continuing to field incumbent members in Hiroshima, where the number of constituencies is reduced by one, and to field incumbent members elected by proportional representation in single-member constituencies in Saitama and Aichi, where the number of constituencies increases by one.

In Tokyo, where the number of constituencies will be increased by five, the LDP has announced a policy of fielding incumbent members in a different constituency, but last week Secretary-General Ishii informed LDP Secretary-General Motegi that he would like to field a candidate in Tokyo's 10th district, which consists of the eastern part of Nerima Ward.

In response to this, Prime Minister Kishida discussed the response with Mr. Motegi and Chairman of the Election Measures Committee Moriyama at the Prime Minister's Office on May 1, but after the meeting, Mr. Motegi told reporters, "Nothing has been decided."

In response to Komeito's response so far, the LDP, mainly from local organizations, has complained that there was "no prior coordination," and there is growing opposition to the new policy in Tokyo, saying that "there is no need to give up that much."

On the other hand, the New Komeito Party is also taking a stance, saying, "If the LDP does not cooperate, cooperation in the election in Tokyo may be a blank slate."

The progress of the coordination of candidates by the two parties is expected to affect Prime Minister Kishida's strategy for dissolving the House of Representatives, and the LDP executive will continue to coordinate while listening to the opinions of local organizations.

Komei Yamaguchi: "We will continue to reach an agreement after active negotiations"

Komeito Representative Yamaguchi told reporters at the Prime Minister's Office, "Under the leadership of the secretary-general of the LDP and Komeito and the chairman of the election committee, we have been holding various consultations on a negotiated basis, and I hope that the parties will continue to reach an agreement through active negotiations."
