"K. Massimov was found guilty..., by partial addition of punishments, the punishment was finally imposed - 18 years in prison, with confiscation of property, with life deprivation of the right to hold positions in the civil service," RIA Novosti reports.

In March, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced an attempt to seize power in Kazakhstan in January by "external and internal enemies."

As it became known in February, after the January riots in the country, 15 cases of treason and attempts to seize power are being investigated.

In particular, Massimov and his deputy, Anuar Sadykulov, were arrested.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kazakhstan was a victim of international gangs in January.
