US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his country is making efforts to end the fighting in Sudan, while Israel announced today that it has proposed to host talks between the leaders of the two parties to the conflict in Sudan for a ceasefire.

At a press conference with his Kenyan counterpart, Blinken made clear that Washington is in constant contact with its partners in the region and beyond to reach a permanent ceasefire in Sudan.

The secretary of state expressed concern about the role of the Russian Wagner Group in Sudan and other African countries.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua expressed his country's concern over the interference of external parties in the conflict in Sudan. The Kenyan minister said during the press conference that everyone should work for peace in Sudan and not take sides.

Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted private sources as saying that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces are heading for a new 3-day truce after contacts from the US administration.

Meanwhile, Israel announced today that it has proposed hosting ceasefire talks between Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti).

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen said that since the outbreak of fighting in Sudan, Israel has been working through various channels to reach a ceasefire, noting that the progress made over the past few days in talks with the two sides is very promising.

The Axios website said earlier that the US administration had seen the Israeli proposal on mediation, and that Israel had coordinated its efforts with it and with countries in the region, including the UAE.
