The municipality of Montélimar (Drôme) wishes to prevent accidents in its hypercentre.

Faced with the increase in the number of purchases of electric scooters, it has decided to ban the circulation of these vehicles in six streets or portions of pedestrian streets from December, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

Although no serious accident has involved a scooter in the municipality, the 24 people who died in France in 2021 at the wheel of these two wheels are enough for the municipality to take such a measure.

More than 130 euros fine

Moreover, the latter does not want to mobilize its agents to control them.

"Of course, on a scooter, you must respect a certain speed, wear a helmet, a fluorescent vest, be specifically insured, but today I am not going to ask the municipal police to stop the scooters to find out if everything is in order. rule, ”said the mayor, Julien Cornillet.

The City nevertheless explains that it wants to encourage its use elsewhere in the municipality, "but there must be a reasoned sharing of public space", added the elected official.

Initially, offenders will simply be called to order but a fortiori, they will be liable to a fine of 135 euros.
