“Electric scooters and other personal mobility devices (PIMs) are gaining more and more popularity among Russians every season. Many citizens use rental services, but a huge number of people purchase these vehicles,” the expert noted.

According to him, to extend the “life cycle” of an electric scooter’s battery, it should not be allowed to be completely discharged.

“You need to recharge the device when the battery is 10-15% charged and at least up to 90%. Only use original chargers or stations. If the power supply supplied in the kit burns out or becomes unusable, it needs to be replaced with exactly the same one,” the specialist advised.

He added that during the period when the electric scooter is not in use, it is important to follow the battery storage rules specified in the instructions.

“That is, at above-zero temperatures, in no case on the balcony, without exposing it to moisture,” Shutov emphasized.

Separately, according to him, it is necessary to dwell on cases when two people move on an electric scooter.

“Firstly, this is fraught with a decrease in its controllability and a shift in the center of gravity: in the event of a fall, the risk of serious injuries is much higher. Electric scooters, as a rule, are designed for users weighing no more than 100 kg, but if this value is regularly exceeded, the battery and electrical circuit may be overloaded, which leads to failure of the electronic components of the SIM,” concluded Shutov.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Association of Manufacturers of Children's Goods, Works and Services, Mikhail Vetrov, proposed considering the possibility of organizing short educational lectures and seminars in Russian educational institutions on the basics of using electric scooters, as well as on methods for accident-free driving of such devices.
