King Felipe VI held a private meeting this Monday at

Clarence House

with Charles III of England.

The Spanish monarch has traveled to London to preside over the celebration of the

135th anniversary

of the

Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom

.

Felipe VI will chair tonight the gala dinner that this key institution in the foreign promotion of Spanish firms, the interconnection of businessmen, exporters and investors from the two countries and the strengthening of bilateral relations at the governmental and institutional level organizes at the

hotel Landmark

, in the northwest of the capital.

It is the second time in a decade that the now monarch has attended a CCE birthday party.

The Spanish ambassador,

José Pascual Marco

, and his British counterpart,

Hugh Elliott

, participate in the event together with state secretaries from both countries, parliamentarians from different political parties and the

speaker

of the upper house, the Scottish

Lord John McFall of Alcluith

, among other public charges.

The CEOs of

Scottish Power

(Scottish subsidiary of

Iberdrola

),

Iberia

,

Cellnex

or

BBVA-UK

join the event along with other employers and members of the Chamber, including the presidents of

Dragados

,

Talgo

,

Navantia

,

Sabadell

and

Santander

.

The president of the CCE,

Eduardo Barrachina , of the

Linklaters

legal advisory

, opens the gala ceremony, which brings together 500 guests in an elegant hall of the Landmark.

The call was a resounding success from the outset and places - with an estimated price of 340 euros per dish - sold out in a few days.

In the same luxurious hotel Felipe presided over the 125th anniversary of the Chamber.

He did the honors, in 2011, in his position as Prince of Asturias, which he shared on that occasion with his wife, now Queen Letizia.

He has not revealed any visit by Juan Carlos I, in his current condition as king emeritus or as former head of state, to this institution and commercial bridge between Spain and the United Kingdom.

You have to go back to the first decade of the last century, to 1919, to read annals about attendance at acts of a monarch's chamber, in the figure of

Alfonso XIII

, the king's great-grandfather.

The Order creating the CCE was published on October 8, 1886, and the board held its first meeting a month later.

The original headquarters were set in

Cavendish Square

-a few meters from its current location north of Oxford Street- and the statutes identified the forum as an "association of merchants, industrialists and artists" dedicated to promoting "international traffic" between Spain and United Kingdom.
