Around 200 people arrived on Saturday in Kherson by train – several of them for the first time in eight months.

The liberation of the city has involved strong emotions and at the station many are waiting to be reunited with loved ones.

One of them is Svetlana, who has been waiting for this day since the war started in February.

With tears in her eyes and flowers in her hand, she hugs her grandson who has just arrived by train.

- We have been waiting for this moment for eight months.

She is very strong, she has lived under occupation, says Svetlana's granddaughter with tears streaming down her cheek.

A little way off, a soldier is standing and playing the violin.

A woman waves the Ukrainian flag and in the background a distant explosion is heard but no one seems to react.

Months of war have made the population used to it.
