Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu on his victory in the Israeli elections and said he expects to "open a new page of cooperation" with the new government.

"Ukraine and Israel share values and challenges, which now require effective cooperation," Zelensky wrote on Twitter, without elaborating.

On Thursday evening, the Israeli Election Commission announced the final official results of vote counting, which showed that the far-right camp led by Benjamin Netanyahu had obtained a clear majority;

allowing him to form a government.

Over the past weeks, Ukraine has repeatedly asked Israel to provide it with air defense systems, but it has not yet succeeded.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said a few days ago that Israel would not send weapons to Ukraine, after Russia warned that any Israeli move to support Kyiv's forces would severely harm bilateral relations.

"We have sent a request to the Ukrainians to share information about their needs for air defense alerts," Gantz added. "Once we have that information, we will be able to help develop a life-saving civilian early warning system."

According to Hebrew sources, Ukraine is still communicating with the concerned authorities in Israel, and is requesting special types of weapons, including anti-armor missiles, drones and the Iron Dome defense system, which Tel Aviv has always rejected.
