Reactions continued within Britain and around the world after Buckingham Palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II today, Thursday, at the age of 96.

King Charles III, who succeeded his mother on the throne of Britain, said, "The death of my beloved mother, Queen Elizabeth, is my greatest moment of sadness."

British Prime Minister Liz Terrace also said - in a speech after the news was announced - that the death of Queen Elizabeth II was "a great shock to Britain and the world... and we all feel very shocked."

"Our country has grown and prospered under the care of Queen Elizabeth II. We declare our allegiance to King Charles III," she added.

Internationally, a group of leaders, presidents and state leaders expressed their condolences to Britain and its people following the news of the Queen's death.
