“Outside the pedestrian crossing zone”: in the Moscow region, two girls fell under the wheels of a garbage truck

In Istra, near Moscow, a garbage truck hit two preschoolers crossing the road.

A three-year-old girl died on the spot from her injuries, a five-year-old girl was hospitalized.

The footage of this terrible accident, taken from the DVR of the car following the garbage truck, circled the social networks.

The footage shows a truck hitting two little girls at a T-junction and then wheeling over them.

After that, the driver stops, and eyewitnesses and the mother of the children run to the scene of the accident.

Eyewitnesses of the tragedy also captured on a mobile phone how the grief-stricken mother of the little ones tries to hit the driver of the garbage truck, and then faints on the roadway.

The driver himself is clearly in a state of hysterics, calling someone on the phone and shouting into the phone: “I hit a child!”

The police initiated a criminal case on the fact of the incident under Art.

264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Violation of the rules of the road and the operation of vehicles”).

“Today, at about 08:45, near one of the houses on Lenin Street in Istra, the driver of a MAZ car, born in 1989, at the exit from a secondary road to the main one, hit two minor children who were crossing the roadway outside the pedestrian crossing zone,” the official statement says. Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow region.

The investigative department of the city of Istra of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region also opened a criminal case under Art.

238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet security requirements).

“In addition, the investigating authorities of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region are petitioning the prosecutor to transfer the criminal case from the police authorities initiated on this incident to the investigative department for the city of Istra of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region for an objective and comprehensive investigation,” it says. in a press release.

As RT was told at the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Moscow Region, the driver of the garbage truck was detained.

He is currently under investigation.

Almost immediately after the accident, doctors arrived at the scene of the accident.

They declared the death of the youngest girl.

Her surviving sister was taken to the hospital. 

The Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region told RT that the injured child was taken to the Istra Regional Clinical Hospital in a state of moderate severity.

“At the moment, a complex of diagnostic measures is being carried out.

Doctors provide all necessary medical care," the ministry added.

In turn, the head of the city district of Istra, Tatyana Vitusheva, announced on her Telegram channel that the girl was hospitalized with leg bruises.

Doctors assess her condition as satisfactory.

“It is known that the family recently moved to live in our city district, my mother processed the documents for enrolling her daughters in kindergarten,” Vitusheva wrote.

“My sincere condolences to the parents and loved ones.

The loss of a child is the worst tragedy.

May God give the family strength to cope with this grief.

The children's rights ombudsman in the Moscow region, Ksenia Mishonova, said that investigators are currently establishing where the children's mother was when they crossed the road. 

At the same time, eyewitnesses to the accident told RT that the intersection at which the girl died was very dangerous.

Pedestrians here quite often cross the road, violating traffic rules.

“It has always been like that.

Zebras are 50 meters to the right and left of this place, but often I myself cross there, the place is dangerous, but it is visible well, ”one of the eyewitnesses explained to RT.

- The garbage truck of the management company turned from the yards to Lenin to go towards the Istra station.

At that moment, the children jumped out in front of their mother - ran forward without her - and got into the blind spot of the garbage truck on the left.

And under the wheels.

There were no scooters, they just ran.”

As RT found out, the garbage truck was driven by 33-year-old native of the Penza region Alexander Mernyaev.

According to media reports, he received a driver's license at the age of 18.

Mernyaev has several minor traffic violations - speeding and crossing a solid marking line, but acquaintances say that in general he has always been a very careful driver.
