After mass resignations among ministers and MPs, Boris Johnson announced on Thursday that he is resigning as leader of the conservative Tories party.

Former British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak was the first to announce his intention to take over as leader.

He was also one of the first to resign in protest of Boris Johnson's leadership.

Promises "conservative principles"

He is the betting companies' favorite to take over as the new Tory leader.

Nadhim Zahawi, who replaced Rishi Sunak as finance minister earlier this week, is also interested.

But more than that have shown interest, including Foreign Minister Liz Truss, who promises "classic conservative principles" if she gets the job.

Transport Minister Grant Shapps, an experienced politician who first sat in David Cameron's government in 2010, is also keen on the job and he promises a government that is "strategic" and "sober".

Ben Wallace does not line up

Kemi Baden, who has served as Minister for Gender Equality, Member of Parliament Tom Tugendhat and Suella Braverman, who has been Minister of Justice for England and Wales, is also part of the group that wants to take over Johnson's job.

But Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, who was one of the pre-favorites, announces that he does not want to be the new leader of the Tories and the new prime minister.
