Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate reported 1047 new corona infections on Thursday.

That is the highest value in three weeks.

A total of 47 108 laboratory-confirmed infections (as of 2.10 p.m.) have been registered since the start of the pandemic, as the Ministry of Health in Mainz announced.

The number of people who died in connection with the Sars-CoV-2 virus continues to rise significantly - within one day it climbed by 16 to 608. According to the authority, 17 199 people are currently infected.

35 Covid-19 patients had to go to the hospital.

The so-called incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, was 122.6 nationwide on Thursday and thus only slightly below the value of the previous week (128.2).

A focus of the current infections is in the Palatinate.

The incidence is highest in Speyer with 304.6 and in Ludwigshafen with 304.2.

This is followed by Frankenthal (250.2) and the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (229.6).

The incidence is lowest in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district at 40.9.
