Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The health authorities in Rhineland-Palatinate reported 795 new corona infections on Tuesday.

A total of 45 140 laboratory-confirmed infections (as of 2:42 p.m.) have been registered since the start of the pandemic, as the state investigation office announced.

In November, the number of new cases more than doubled (plus 117 percent) - in October, the first month of the current wave of infections, there was an increase of 90.7 percent.

The number of people who died in connection with the Sars-CoV-2 virus continues to rise significantly - within one day the number of deaths rose by 26 to 572 on Tuesday.

According to the authority, 16,430 people are currently infected.

The so-called incidence, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, was 119.5 nationwide on Monday, slightly below the value of the previous week (134.3).

This indicator for the infection dynamics is highest in Speyer with 267.0.

This is followed by Frankenthal (227.6), the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis (183) and the Alzey-Worms (176.6).

The incidence is lowest in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district at 39.1.
