France records a record number of daily "Corona" injuries

Data released Thursday evening by the French Public Health Directorate showed that 16,096 new cases of the emerging coronavirus were recorded within 24 hours in the country, a record number since the virus detection tests were launched on a large scale.

The Health Directorate said that while new containment measures were announced on Wednesday, 52 patients died of COVID-19 within 24 hours in hospital.

The previous record was set Wednesday, with more than 13,000 new infections.

In an indication of the growing epidemiological path, the number of infections among those who underwent tests increased again, reaching 6.5% compared to 6.2% on Wednesday and 5.4% last week.

In the past seven days, hospitals received 4,258 new patients, including 718 who required intensive care, up 43 from Wednesday evening.

Since the beginning of the epidemic crisis, France has recorded at least 31,511 deaths from epidemic-related causes, including 20,940 hospitalizations.

In its weekly briefing on Thursday, the Health Directorate noted "a steady increase (in the numbers) of those entering intensive care" and "an acceleration of the transmission of SARS-Cove-2 infection among those aged 65 and over."
