According to the press service of the Ukrainian leader, the conversation took place on the initiative of the Iranian side, Rukhani "fully recognizes that the tragedy occurred due to erroneous actions of the military of this country."

He expressed his condolences in connection with the tragedy and assured that all those involved in the incident would be held accountable, the Ukrainian expert group, in turn, would receive the necessary support "for further effective cooperation in the legal and technical fields."

Zelensky stated that Iran’s recognition “paved the way for its investigation to continue without any delays or obstacles.”

“I look forward to further constructive interaction with Iran in accordance with international law,” he said.

The Ukrainian leader added that the crew of the airliner acted in strict accordance with international flight rules and instructions.

At the same time, he announced the need for prompt identification and return of the bodies of Ukrainians who died during the plane crash to January 19.

Rouhani assured that he would give appropriate instructions at night so that the repatriation of the bodies took place as quickly as possible.

It is noted that the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine will immediately send a note to Iran with a clear list of all subsequent steps, including the legal aspects of resolving the issue of compensation.

“The Iranian side agrees with Ukraine on this issue,” the press service reports.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called the first important step Iran’s statement that a Ukrainian passenger plane was shot down in Tehran by mistake.

The president of Ukraine’s International Airlines, Yevgeny Dykhne, also said that the company would pay compensation to the families of the victims of the crash, and noted that UIA supports Zelensky’s position regarding compensation from Iran.

On January 11, Iran admitted that the liner was shot down accidentally as a result of a human error.
