"In the face of threats and intimidation by the aggressive American regime of the Iranian nation after the martyrdom of General Kassem Suleimani, the Iranian armed forces were put on full alert to protect themselves from possible attacks from the United States, which unfortunately led to this terrible disaster." The Iranian leader said in a statement.
Rouhani also said that those responsible for the crash will be held accountable.
Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran said that the passenger plane of the company "International Airlines of Ukraine", crashed near Tehran, was accidentally shot down as a result of a human error.
On January 8, the Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off in the Iranian capital. The victims of the crash were 176 people.
