Under the hot sun and hot temperatures of Miami Beach, more than 60 car-shaped sand sculptures were installed for the annual Art Basel fair in order to challenge tourists and onlookers about the reality of climate change.

These sand cars, which give the impression that a car park was installed on this long beach of Florida, are the work of the Argentine sculptor of 46 years Leandro Erlich, at the origin of this installation which he baptized " Order of Importance ".

The purpose of his work? Push the public to question their own "responsibility" and "involvement in the events that are beginning to happen on our planet," he told reporters on Monday.

The title ("order of importance" in French) refers "to our understanding of our priorities and must" make us think about our future ".

This conceptual artist from Buenos Aires, known for his illusions of optics, was accompanied Monday by the democratic mayor of Miami Beach, Dan Gelber, who congratulated him for his work.

This seaside resort, a barrier island in front of Miami, is particularly sensitive to rising sea levels.

"That someone can create something by mixing all these elements - the environment, the urbanization, the ecology - so that a passer-by can think about all that, it is spectacular", added Dan Gelber.

With numerous installations around the world, Leandro Erlich has seduced the public and critics alike. He has exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2005), the Reina Sofía National Museum in Madrid (2008), the Museum of Modern Art in New York (2008) and the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris (2011).
