The Xing'an League, located between the Greater Khingan Mountains and the Songnen Plain, has witnessed the "confrontation" between the vast forest and the long yellow sand.

Since 2013, a total of 2.1009 million acres of desertified land have been treated locally. The area of desertified land has been reduced from 6.15 million acres to 4.0491 million acres today. One-third of the local desertified land has been effectively treated.

Huadeng Gacha, Haoyaosumu Town, Horqin Right Middle Banner (referred to as Keyou Middle Banner) is located at the northernmost end of the Horqin Sandy Land, which is an important area for desertification control.

In the 5,000-acre semi-moving sand dune area, stacks of dry rice straw and straw bale ropes are neatly stacked, accompanied by the roar of tractors, pit diggers, forklifts and other large machinery, marking lines, ditching, laying grass, pressing sand, etc. The work was carried out in sequence. Luo Chunmei, director of the afforestation section of the Keyou Middle Banner Forestry and Grassland Bureau with more than 20 years of work experience, worked enthusiastically with local farmers and herdsmen.

"We have developed a straw sand fixation machine, which not only greatly improves the quality of the straw grids, but also allows one machine to operate on an area of more than 200 acres a day, which not only reduces labor but also improves efficiency," Luo Chunmei said.

In the open space southwest of Huadeng Gacha, technicians are holding survey instruments to collect real-time data on plants, soil, water quality, climate and other data for a desertification control project with a total area of 1,714 acres, and analyze it through intelligent systems to generate Targeted governance programs.

Cai Baojun, secretary of the Keyouzhong Banner Committee, said: "This year we will complete the tasks of 59,000 acres of bare yellow sand, 171,500 acres of desertified land, and 130,000 acres of sandy land with photovoltaic desertification control, to achieve the goal of 'eliminating yellow sand in the entire region.'"

In a management area overgrown with vegetation in Balizhugacha, Sumu, Bayannaoer, more than 6,000 acres of caragana trees standing in the wind have just completed the stubble removal operation.

"We're just waiting for the rainy season." Tuya, a herdsman, looked at the growing caragana in front of her with a smile.

"Moving sand dunes here were barren more than ten years ago, and now many golden pheasants (a local plant) have grown to be as tall as a person." Bao Tiebao, secretary of the Bali Zhuri Gacha Party Branch, said, "The ecological environment is year-round. Better than one year ago, it’s like watching a child grow and thrive, it’s gratifying.”

Today's Horqin Sandy Land not only adds green, but also produces gold.

In Xiridaobu Gacha, Bayanhushu Town, villagers run a farmhouse, which is always crowded with guests during holidays; in Gaolsumu Bulagetai Gacha, Emuting, the barren barren hills that were once barren of grass are now covered with green trees in summer. , melons and fruits are fragrant, and the veritable "Flower and Fruit Mountain" generates more than 60,000 yuan (RMB) in revenue for the collective economy every year.

In 2024, Xing'an League will also vigorously implement desertification prevention and control and wind power and photovoltaic integration projects to achieve a new energy installed capacity of 900,000 kilowatts and comprehensive management of 140,000 acres of desertified land.

"After the implementation of photovoltaic desertification control, we will guide surrounding farmers and herdsmen to increase their income and become rich by leasing sandy land, maintaining photovoltaic panels, and participating in planting and breeding projects under the panels." Geng Tianliang, director of the Xing'an League Forestry and Grassland Bureau, said in " During the sixth phase of the "Three North" project, Xing'an League will complete the task of treating 4.0491 million acres of desertified land and carve green miracles on the Horqin sandy land.
