At a little over three months of the municipal elections, the Republicans have decided Wednesday. Martine Vassal will be the official candidate of the party to try to take over from Jean-Claude Gaudin in March at Marseille City Hall.

Could the Republicans lose the second city of France? One thing is for sure, not easy for the right wing to turn the page Gaudin, 25 years of undivided rule.

Despite attempts to mediate party boss Christian Jacob, despite an official nomination and wide nomination committee to 21 votes to 11, they are still two wanting to stand for the right in the municipal next March.

On the one hand, there is Martine Vassal, supported by the outgoing mayor, favorite polls and now official candidate LR and on the other, we find Bruno Gilles, lagging behind in opinion studies, but candidate declared since a year and now dissident because Bruno Gilles has said in the verdict of the investiture committee Tuesday night, he intends to stay in the race.

This war of succession comes as the balance sheet of the outgoing mayor in matters of housing, finance or education is more than mixed. Only glimmer of hope for the Marseille right; the divisions also undermine the other parties with the exception of the National Gathering whose undisputed candidate, Stéphane Ravier, plow the ground for several months already.
